I am honored to write this letter of recommendation for MJ Matteson, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise as a math teacher, engineering teacher, robotics and volleyball coach. Mr. Matteson is an outstanding educator who consistently inspires students both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.

As a math and engineering teacher, Mr. Matteson brings a dynamic approach to instruction, making complex concepts accessible and engaging. His ability to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students. Through hands-on projects and innovative teaching methods, Mr. Matteson has significantly enhanced students’ understanding and appreciation of STEM subjects.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Matteson is an exceptional robotics coach, leading teams to success through strategic guidance and planning for multiple levels of competitions. The commitment to fostering teamwork, creativity and technical skills has resulted in students excelling in competitions and developing a passion for engineering. His ability to motivate and challenge students ensures that each team member grows academically and personally.

In addition to his STEM coaching, Mr. Matteson has made a significant impact as a volleyball coach, demonstrating strong leadership as an assistant, as well as starting the boy's program on the Estrella Foothills campus. He has demonstrated a passion and discipline for volleyball which is visible within the program's culture. Both the boys and girls teams have had tremendous success with multiple college athletes coming out of the girls program, two state championships, a state runner-up, and five region titles.

MJ is an asset to the EFHS campus both in the classroom and on the court. He consistently makes everyone around him better.
