AR Calculator: Reading Level and AR Points

Directions:
Count the number of pages in the book and enter that number. Randomly choose a page from your book that is a good sample of the rest of the book. Count the number of words on the page, enter that. Now count the number of sentences on that page and enter that. Count the number of "Big Words," that is unfamiliar words and multi-syllabic words that would be difficult for your students to read, enter this number. Click on the Reading Level Button to calculate the Reading Level first. Then click on the AR Points Button to calculate the point value.

*Note that these formulas come from standardly used formulas. The AR formula is exactly the formula that Rennassaince says is used to determine AR points. The Reading Level formula is one of many different types out there and this one just seems to be the most accurate for the books I have evaluated.

**These numbers are close approximations since we are using small samples of a book, and one of many Reading Level formulas, estimation is encouraged to produce accurate results. These numbers may not be exactly what the book is determined to be by Rennassaince, but they are close approximations that have worked well for me.
